Student Supervision and Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Student Supervision

The School has a duty of care to ensure the safety of our students on our campus. We ensure this through structured supervision procedures. Please be mindful of designated supervision times; parents will be contacted by the relevant Head of School if students are dropped off or picked up outside these times.

Morning Supervision

Teacher playground supervision begins at 8.20am each morning.

Primary students arriving between 7.50am and 8.20am must go to the SOLA until playground supervision begins at 8.20am. Students attending co-curricular activities starting at 8.00am will be collected from SOLA.

Secondary students arriving between 7.50am and 8.20am may use the Dawson Library for quiet study or reading. They can remain in the Library or move to year areas at 8.20am.

No students are to be on-site before 7.50am. Students on-site before this time will be taken to Front Reception, and parents will be contacted.

Exceptions to arriving before 7.50am:

Students attending Before School Care.
Years 11 and 12 with timetabled before-school classes.
RAD Ballet students on scheduled class days.
Students who are participating in co-curricular activities that are scheduled before 7.50am. (link to co-curricular activities or Opps page)

Kindergarten students will have separate arrangements at the beginning of the year to ensure a smooth transition to school.

Afternoon supervision

Note: Kiss and Drop, front oval, bus lines and OSHC are the only options for collection from the school.

Primary School student supervision ends at 3.45pm, and all students must be collected from the Kiss and Drop area by this time. Students who have not been collected by 3.45pm (and are not registered for OSHC) will be taken to Front Reception, and parents contacted.

All Primary students who are not being collected by parents or caregivers at the end of the school day, or catching a bus after school, need to be registered for our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service.

Children can walk or ride home from school, but parents should consider their age and ability to manage the risks of crossing roads.

Secondary students will have access to the Dawson Library every afternoon until 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and until 4.00pm on Fridays, for quiet study or reading.

Parking, Pick-Up and Drop-Off

Due to the streets surrounding the School having minimal parking, we have a drop-off and pick-up procedure that involves a Kiss and Drop Zone directly at the front of the School, outside the Iona Performing Arts Centre.

The intention is that drivers do not wait or park in the Kiss and Drop zone and that they stay in their vehicle so that through traffic is streamlined and traffic queues are minimised. The Kiss and Drop area is in constant use, and parents and visitors should not park in this area at any time of the day or night.

Kiss and Drop Car Line

Please be mindful of the following rules and guidelines:

The Kiss and Drop zone is a "No Parking" area. Vehicles are only permitted to ‘stop’ for 3 minutes.
Drivers should proceed to the frontmost available point in the Kiss and Drop zone to maximise space and avoid gaps.
Do not double park.
Do not get out of your vehicle; staff will assist the students.
Students should enter and exit vehicles on the footpath side of the Kiss and Drop zone.
Do not ask children to get into the car before the line moves to the top of Kiss and Drop (or the Bus Lane for Stage 1).
Only Stage 1 parents can wait in Kiss and Drop before 3.15pm.
Only Stage 1 parents can enter the school through the Right Lane (Bus Lane).
Stage 2 and Stage 3 parents must use the Left Lane and wait until 3.15pm to enter Kiss and Drop.
If the Kiss and Drop is full or you want to get out of your car, please park in the designated car parking areas.
Make sure to exit the zone promptly.

Afternoon Pick-ups Procedure

The following guidelines apply for afternoon pick-ups from the Kiss and Drop zone:

A sign will be issued to all parents with your surname. Please place this sign on your car's dashboard or visor when you are pulling up to the Kiss and Drop zone. If you need a replacement sign or haven't received one, please email us.
Staff with walkie-talkies will be on duty each afternoon to monitor pick-up via the Kiss and Drop zone and will radio through the student's surname(s) required as the car approaches. Students will then come forward.
If your child is not at the Kiss and Drop zone when you arrive, you are required to circle around the block and rejoin the line. Keeping traffic moving smoothly is key to the system's effectiveness.
Kiss and Drop closes at 3:45pm. Parents are contacted by Reception if their child/ren are not collected.

Parking Guidelines

Do not park in the staff car park to drop off or pick up children.
Do not access parking via the Columba Cottage boom gate.
Do not park in the Columba Cottage parking area (blue zone marked A on the map)
Parents and visitors to SCAS are not permitted to park in the allocated sign-marked parking spots near the SOLA entrance (orange zone marked C on the map).
Local Council rangers patrol the area around the school from time to time, so please be mindful when parking in surrounding streets and avoid parking on verges or blocking driveways.

These guidelines ensure student safety and smooth traffic flow for the school community.
